    Position Summary: 

    Responsible for overseeing/managing the software test function for Spok’s installed product lines including test infrastructure, processes and employees/contractors.  Builds teamwork and collaboration with product and development team resources in an Agile environment (development, DevOps, documentation and product management) to streamline and improve the effectiveness of software testing. Oversees the development and implementation of test strategies, test plans to verify functionality and interoperability; promotes the identification and development of technical skill requirements and competencies to ensure release readiness for customer delivery.  Collaborates effectively with Product Management, Professional Services, Tech Support and Sales staff to understand customer needs; assists in communicating requirements to developers including contractors. Reports to the Director of Development for Care Connect Suite.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

    • Works with management and test professionals to define overall test strategy and objectives across products in maintenance and development.
    • Demonstrates familiarity with Spok documentation standards and ensures release documentation meets customer and internal requirements.
    • Creates and reports on key quality criteria for software releases such as test case reports.
    • Ensures thorough system integration, regression, and performance testing on the product
      • Oversees creation of test environment for performing all tests including use of virtual environments whenever possible.
      • Develops and implements standards for patch testing (OS and Database) and security scanning.
      • Determines software test metrics and gathers data to measure software test effectiveness and makes necessary improvements based on data
      • Ensures direct reports and/or contractors are adhering to and promoting Agile / Scrum development practices and are contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
      • Collaborates directly and in-directly across all functions within Spok; coordinates effective communications and promotes collaboration with Spok internal customers related to remediation, testing and Q/A of software; promotes alignment with goals, strategies and processes within the Product and Development organization itself.
      • Ensures software products are completed on time and according to defined processes, principles and practices.
      • Assists development teams in identifying and reporting on escalation trends, resolution reports and collaborates within the organization on product defects and trends.
      • Oversees the vendor/contractor certifications including configurations, test plans and test execution (as appropriate).
      • Takes accountability for software quality in each release. Exercises responsibility towards software quality to postpone any software release that does not measure to internal Quality standards.
      • Stays current on best practices in software quality management and test strategies. Attains subject matter expert level of knowledge to be shared broadly with multiple development teams.

      Supervisory Responsibilities: 

      May manage up to 5 team members, and up to 5 contractors, as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

      Education and/or Experience:

      Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology or related field required and 6+ years of related experience; or 4+ years’ related experience and/or training with a Master’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Master’s degree preferred.

      Required Skills and Qualifications:

      • Experience managing software test resources and defining high-level test strategies and objectives
      • Experience working cross functionally to align work product deliverable, mitigating conflict

      Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

      • 2+ years of managing testing resources
      • 6+ year of testing experience
      • Experience creating, executing and reviewing the results of functional, integration, regression, performance, load and user acceptance tests
      • Experience mentoring, coaching of internal and external resources
      • Experience creating win-win solutions
      • Experience with risk-based test analysis – ability to assist with planning overall test strategy for an application
      • Excellent communication, documentation and reporting skills.
      • Experience with test automation
      • Experience with software testing in an Agile\Scrum environment
      • Experience with telephony and certification of 3rd party software desired
      • Experience in the Healthcare industry, Telecommunications and Call Center technologies preferred
      • Familiarity with Linux, Windows server, and desktop operating systems.
      • Experience testing mobile devices is a plus
      • Experience with hosted environments is a plus
